π Installation & Wiringβ
Power Connectionβ
- Mount the ESC using vibration-isolating rubber dampers.
- Solder battery leads directly to the VBAT (+) and GND (β) pads.
- Install the included low-ESR capacitor across VBAT and GND as close to the ESC as possible.
β οΈ Always verify polarity before applying power.
Flight Controller Connectionβ
- Connect the ESC signal harness to the flight controller ESC header or pads.
- Confirm proper alignment of:
- VBAT
- GND
- Motor outputs (M1βM4)
- Current sense
- ESC telemetry
π§ AM32 Firmware Overviewβ
The Ewing 80A ESC runs AM32, a modern open-source 32-bit ESC firmware offering:
- High-speed motor response
- Advanced telemetry and RPM feedback
- Configurable PWM frequency and timing
- Broad compatibility with modern flight controllers
βοΈ Betaflight Configuration (Recommended)β
- Open Betaflight Configurator
- Navigate to Configuration β ESC/Motor Features
- Set:
- ESC Protocol:
DSHOT600 - Enable Bidirectional DSHOT (if supported)
- ESC Protocol:
- Save and reboot
Telemetry Setupβ
- Go to the Ports tab
- Enable Telemetry on the UART connected to ESC telemetry
- Save and reboot
Motor Verificationβ
- Remove propellers
- Use the Motors tab to confirm:
- Correct motor order
- Correct motor direction
- Reverse motors in software if needed
π§ AM32 Configurator (Advanced Tuning)β
Advanced tuning options include:
- PWM frequency (24β48 kHz typical)
- Motor timing
- Startup power / boost
- Braking strength
- Telemetry output mode
β οΈ Make incremental changes and test at low throttle.
β οΈ Safety Notesβ
- Always remove propellers during setup
- Use a smoke stopper for first power-on
- Verify solder joints and insulation
